Of course he wasn't the first or last. But he took the phenomenon to new heights. More importantly, he was also able to continue believing things that weren't true long after all the evidence had shown his beliefs were completely unfounded.

I'm sure if records were kept for such things, he would be the all-time champion. That's really the area of his greatest accomplishment, if you want to look at it like that.
