The real answer to climate change is to leave fossil fuels in the ground. All the talk in Bali about cutting carbon means nothing while ever more oil and coal is being extracted and burned

Personally, I feel GW/CC is cover for PO and fossil fuel
depletion and the solutions to both are largely the same ..

Unless we're already at or beyond an atmospheric CO2 tipping
point with regards to CC it's a non problem as we won't be
emitting CO2 at anywhere near the current rate in 30 years ..

The trick is how to transition western economies from the
present dependence upon fossil fuels to electric with the
least disruption to BAU ..

I don't see any other way than a massive buildout of new
nukes plus all the wind and CSP ( concentrated solar thermal
generating stations ) that we can muster ..

We'll need the current/remaining supplies of diesel/gasoline etc
to run the planets' agricultural and distribution
systems rather than mindlessly consuming same in personal vehicles
( cars,planes,pleasure boats ) and space heating ..
We can and should cover most of those needs with electric

I really have my doubts that we can pull it off without
devolving into numerous asset grabs/resource wars in an
effort to maintain the present lifestyle ..

We've got to show/convince the developing countries around
the world that there is a path to prosperity that's not
fossil fuel dependant .. and we won't get there if we
choose less energy dense solutions than what we're presently
using ..

Triff ..
