Of course you could, if you wished to have words mean what you want them to mean.

OK, OK. I'm not trying to argue a different definition of "ranch," only that the misuse of the word is common and not confined to media reporting on Bush's home. The label may not be correct but it represents fairly widespread ignorance and is, thus, partially excusable, something to flinch when we hear it, not get all exercised or attribute questionable motives, kind of like the common misuse of "decimate" before the misuse became so common that it found a place in the dictionary.
