>>Pardon me for thinking that you guys won't throw him any bone, ever, no matter what.
One of the raps on Bush has been that he wouldn't even consider let alone admit any mistake. Well, he just made a small admission of a mistake. It seems to me that fairness and objectivity require some tiny recognition of that--even if for no other reason than as a curiosity in light of past performance--before going back to bashing as usual.<<

Fair enough. The admission of the mistake is something he should get credit for.
But his record on accomplishing things he has set out to do leaves a lot to be desired, and he has fouled the Middle Eastern nest so badly that I still can't bring myself to have much hope that he can do anything constructive there in the next seven months. I wish him the best, and I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not going to forego respiration.
I am very much in the "disapprove" column with respect to Mr. Bush, and I will make no apologies for that. I believe that he misled the nation in leading us into the war in Iraq. He's not solely to blame for that, of course. Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, and others are clearly also guilty. But even sharing only part of that responsibility makes him quite a bad guy, in my opinion. It was not a trivial thing, to be forgiven lightly.

PS: My local bookstore just called to tell me they have finally gotten the Scott McClellan book in. As I read it, there's a chance I'll become even less inclined to throw Bush a bone. Fair warning. |
