I kept my internal budget to myself, and had checked before we ever started shopping the approximate costs of whatever the item or clothing or place was...it just made it easier to try to have an overall budget. It is WAY too easy to spend money otherwise.

We too, had offered the kids the amount of money or the wedding....but my daughter was firm on the wedding. You never know sometimes what dreams others have... It was a splendid party, and the largest one we would ever throw, so in the long run, it was worth it.... But between 3 in college at the same time, plus the wedding, it made for interesting planning, for sure!

Months of planning, and the morning of the wedding, the newspaper had in HUGE headlines "SIX INCHES SNOW PREDICTED TODAY"

The day started out to be just lovely, and cold (December)...but by noon at the luncheon we had planned for grandparents and family with bride, it had started to snow. By 2 it was a mess, and by 4 when we had to be at the church it was LOTS of snow, and by 5:30, it was starting to monsoon....by 7 when the ceremony started, the church was filled with over 400 people, and LOTS of chatter about the wild day..... We could not believe how many people actually were able to come to both the wedding then the reception later several miles away.

Because of that, the local paper had a big write up about the event....We were just happy that no one was injured coming, and that everyone had fun! Us included.
