f your elk hunting was interrupted by timber harvest, that is only temporary. In due time you should be able to go back and hunt.

Sometimes what you say is true, but there are lots of cases where things don't come back. The salmon off the west coast will not come back - at least in my lifetime. The loss of this resource - both to the recreation fisherman and to the commercial fisherman is very sad. A way of life lost. Never a clear culprit here, but obviously in parts of the coast that are not effected by damns, logging is the big evil.

I'm not against logging at all and am not even against clearcut logging, but the economic incentive was too large that all resources took a back seat to timber harvest in old growth forest. There is no way the salmon or elk resource can compete with the timber resource. Same with ANWR. Someone said there was a trillion worth of oil there - you think if it is opened up that economic incentive won't keep the oil flowing? The caribou have no economic incentive and lose.
