But to make an informed decision one will have to see a comprehensive analysis of drilling in ANWR in terms of effect on Oil price, consumption, needed refinery capacity, effect on wildlife etc etc

My guess is that any number of studies have been done and regardless of their results, that they hasnt changed anybody's mind. These issues tend to become litmus tests and so any politician that is remotely an environmentalist cant be seen as supporting drilling. Converesely, the people that support ANWR tend to portray it as some sort of cure all for our oil prices when it clearly would only have a minor impact.
