Weisberg accused of fraud
Thursday, 12 June 2008 11:51
Waccabuc resident Martin Weisberg has been indicted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office amidst accusations of federal wire fraud and money laundering. According to the attorney’s office, Mr. Weisberg is accused of stealing approximately $1.3 million from an escrow account established on behalf of one of his clients. The fraud was uncovered during an investigation into Mr. Weisberg’s earlier indictment on securities fraud.

“Clients are entitled to trust that their lawyers will act in their best interests and will uphold the highest ethical standards,” said U.S. Attorney Benton Campbell in announcing the charges. “Those who exploit that professional relationship to enrich themselves will be held to account.”

If convicted, Mr. Weisberg faces up to 20 years in prison on each of the wire fraud charges and 10 years in prison on the money laundering charge. He also faces a fine of up to $2.6 million.
