I would rate the current iPhone's voice quality as "acceptable".
Haven't tried the new one yet, obviously, but Jobs did mention "dramatically improved audio quality" as one of the features. I don't think he was talking about the iPod sound, which has always been terrific, through any good headphones.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with quiet. Of course it would be great if iPhones were more clear than most landlines, but in general, the average landline is still better than most cell phones. Just the nature of cell technology. If the lack of comment is because iPhones is average or above average compared to most other cell phones, then it's not worth talking about much.
I don't recall hearing the improved audio, but that's always welcome, even though not necessary. The lack of weakness in this area is great (other smartphones have been criticized for what is fundamentally the most important function of a smartphone), so that people can focus on the new functions - browser, location based services, etc. |
