The rightwing falsely attacked Dan Rather and ruined his career, for him fired. They went after CBS, the New York Times, the LA Timnes, the Washington Post, etc., etc. etc.

Ask any journalist if during the period between late 2001 and 2004 if he/she was allowed to print or report muckraking articles or stories vs. the Bush-Cheney regime. They will tell you that it was exceedingly difficult given the pressure the White House was putting on the press. They did what they did to Valerie Plame to Dan Rather when he started down the 1971 GW Bush AWOl from the Guard story. The reason Rove had Rather ruined was that the next part of that story was GW Bush's not so secret cocaine arrest in 1971 which was the main reason he didn't report for duty. It would have cost Bush his re-election so they went nuclear on Rather. They went to his boss's and said "look, we're deregulating big media corps but we might punish you if you don't get rid of Rather". That's exactly what happened. The whole fraudulent document scheme was a set up by Rove, a false flag operation right out of the Cold War CIA or KGB.

Also, just look how many thousands of times the rightwing has demoniuzed our greatest newspapers and networks. Over and over and over, wanting to replace real news with rightwing propaganda to protect the most corrupt corporate interest6s like big oil and war profiteers.
