No, it doesn't work that way. If you lift other's idea and pass on as it's own, you are basically stealing from the author. The author come up with the idea and he deserve the credit. Same as other take your idea and pass it out as their own. If stealing is o.k. with you then it is o.k. to do what you did. It is not netiquette, it is basic respect for other's work.
