Some people continue to believe that the goal of those who are concerned about things like habeas corpus are interested in protecting the guilty, whether they be terrorists or common criminals. That's the fundamental misunderstanding here.

The Justices who voted with the majority in this case are trying to protect innocent people who have been apprehended by mistake. Habeas Corpus is a fundamental legal principle that protects the innocent, and is one of the most important pillars of our entire justice system.

I don't think affirming it has anything to do with a pissing contest.
