Over time the nation accumulated a lot of baggage - too complex tax codes, mountains of suffocating regulation, society is too legalistic, medicine too defensive... and there seems to be no way to reform all those things and many others. So, the impulse is to project personal and collective hopes on a vague smart guy like Obama

In one of John Stossels books he explained that the countries with the most freedom and the fewest regulations are also the most prosperous. In India it can take upwards of 2 years worth of filling out forms to start a business, in Denmark you can do the same thing in a day and one form.....

I see real reform as the greatest problem facing us today. If and when America falls it won't be because of rising tides and a melting ice cap, (I say "a" because Antarctica is growing), it will be because Americans have drowned in an overwhelming sea of laws, regulation and taxes.......

Nadine pointed this out before and I believe she's correct, that Obama is a blank slate that reflects what people want to see....not necessarily what's there.
