The unions refused to install it in the center and insisted on installing on one side of the roof. Why? Because it meant the installer had to reach more than 18" to do it. Stupid. When all was said and done, when they finally came to terms, GM had to pay the employees MORE to get them to reach more than 18".

If the key problem with American cars was the placement of the roof attenna, you might have a point but the inability of the American car industry to compete in the global marketplace has a lot more to do with corporate mgmt decisions then their unions. But I understand........for righties like you, unions are a convenient scapegoat.
