A few days ago I ran into a movie based on Mikhail Bulgakov's "The Master and Margarita". If there are any Russian speakers around here, it's a real treat. There are 10 parts, and each part is divided into 5 episodes. Stick to the version which mentions "English subtitles". The book is excellent, couldn't recommend it more - and this show is a very close and respectful rendition. Among (many) other things it offers a fascinating view of life in the 1920's - 30's Soviet Russia. Part one, the beginning, where Messir Woland enters the lives of two writers: youtube.com Take a look, for example, at the episode where Margarita turns into a witch and is getting ready to go to the Satan's ball, where she will be reunited with her lover, The Master, who wrote a novel about Pontius Pilate (which in the book and in the show is a novel within a novel). youtube.com Have fun! Movies like this are one of the intangible benefits of the departure of Communism.
