For almost 40 years the American education system has been locked into the belief that pre-K (pre Kindergarten) education is a pre-requisite to excellent education. That is when America began to lose its bearings in excellence in education. We confused education with the perceived need to provide affordable day-care for mothers who were left with no husband. These were women who needed to work for pay and care for their children. Also fueling this move to pre-K and after schoolcare was the movement of educated women moving into the workforce and careers ----women who could not afford private nannies. I am not surprised that there are two opinions on education within the Democrat Party. As those 40 years progressed, numerous studies were done as education went awry----posing the many questions of what are we doing wrong. Seems the Democrats are still asking the same questions and to some extent proposing the wrong answers. This is such deja vu. The answers are simple. Assuming we believe in public education, examine the whole of what is now over 100 years in public education with an eye to what has worked and build from there. mj
