Here's an article about the plasma generator. Apparently it converts everything into syngas, composed of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, which is then reduced to its constituents.

The Popular Science magazine article says the generator gets power off the grid to start up, then becomes self-sustaining by burning the syngas. Apparently it produces no pollution and burns everything, including shotgun shells, agent orange, and undifferentiated garbage.

If it works on a global scale, it's going to revolutionize solid waste disposal.
