>>Karim, how exactly do MM's weed out the weak hands??<<

Dave,

In anticipation of an upbeat earnings' report and hence higher share prices, the MMs (Market Manipulators) bring the price down and thus trigger a panic selling spree among those investors who are not as confident of their investment's true value! (I can bet you a can of your favorite soda pop that guys like Tito and Gottfried and Cary did not part with a single AMAT share today but many others on this thread probably did!)

Since buyers watch from the sidelines when the price of shares is coming down and only buy when the price is rising, therefore the MMs can replenish their inventory with low priced shares. And as it gets closer to earnings' announcement, they can turnaround and sell those same shares to new buyers at higher prices!

Just my humble opinion.

Regards,
Karim
