There's absolutely no reason to ever do that. If you don't live in Australia you don't pay Australian taxes except on your Australian investments just like any other foreign investor. Only difficulty is you can't get at your superannuation account till age 60 (for people of my age and younger) whether you are a citizen or resident or not. The US is one of the few countries to tax its citizens wherever they live. So I can't see any reason for relinquishing Aussie citizenship.
