Nothing bizarre about it, its simple fact. Your argument that the US was such an aggressive imperial power was that we had so many military bases, but the connection between having a lot of military bases and being an imperial power is only indirect, having such bases is not an indication of imperialism. The only real connection is that having such bases is a prerequisite for imperialism.
