"Well there are serious criminals including murderers, who have gone on to later make a positive contribution to society. Its not very common, and I can't think of the names of any specific individuals at the moment, but I remember reading stories about a few."

Some people are convicted of murder who are acting on some ulterior motive like a vendetta, a contract killer, a drug deal gone bad, or secondarily to some other motive like a botched robbery.

When I use the term heinous, I am thinking of abominable crimes that are serious like murder, rape, or torture but which also involve some sort of sadistic cruelty.
