Well, duh. However, that doesn't mean that CO2 has zero effect. And, when all other factors are constant, raising the CO2 level will have an effect.

Now, there is little sign that insolation has increased. But, albedo may have changed. There is some evidence that the general cooling we experienced until the 1970s may have been due to particulates from pollution. So the warming trend due to increases in CO2 was partially compensated for by increased particulates in the air. However, there was a warming trend for nighttime temperatures which is consistent with greenhouse gasses.

And the oceans have warmed. By the 1970s, when I got my degree in marine science, it was considered to be common enough knowledge that the 18 cm. rise in sea level over the previous 80 years was due to thermal expansion that it was taught as obvious in undergrad classes.

So this isn't something that started with Gore.
