Seems likely that Obama is making it own that whoever becomes VP, they will be a tight team player subject to close coordination from senior staff Obama appoints. Obama's VP would probably have a less prominent role than McCain's choice with the latter being an obvious heir apparent, maybe even in 2012.

Obama could go for someone like Nunn with little chance of ever being president himself. That formulation would reinforce the model of a closely-welded-in #2 who isn't going to rock the boat for ego reasons.
