But remember that the estimates of all off shore reserves is about 14 Billion barrels, and we use 7.5 Billion barrels per year.

Your 14 billion number seems quite low.

"The federal government estimates that California's coastal waters could hold 10.13 billion barrels of oil. That's almost the same amount believed to lie beneath the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which the Bush administration has pushed hard to open to exploration." - That's excluding Oregon, Washington and the entire east coast.

That's assuming the oil companies really want to drill hugely expensive, long term investment deep water wells when we certainly look like we are moving to much more gasoline efficient and alternative fuel vehicles.

Trucks, planes and trains which use half the oil will continue no matter the car issue - there are no hybrid electric airplanes now or on the drawing board.

I wouldn't invest my money in off shore drilling with a 20 year payoff. Would you?

They sure think they can make a profit - they keep asking for permission.
