Con Coughlin's book Saddam: King of Terror was one of the books I read pre-war. When compared to the far more scholarly and complete work of some others, his came off sensationalistic and VERY dedicated to the the goal of justifying why Saddam should be taken out- the spin is heavy. The feeling I had after I read it was kind of embarrassed- like I'd read a Harlequin romance compared to real literature.
It WAS easy reading, though.

I DO see a lot of hope for Obama that may be overly-optimistic, but it's obviously a reaction to the despair bred by Bush and more about a prevailing mood than the man himself. It would be nice if McCain inspired a little excitement.

Still, I hope we don't just ignore the points brought up by our resident indies and RWers. No POV is perfect, and one of the things I am hoping for is a good strong streak of practicality from Obama to mitigate the push for a pure liberal agenda. Maybe that is dreaming.

A vote for either candidate at this point would be assuming a lot of stuff based on hope for me.
