The advantage of non-oil/gas investments is that it provides for our economy specifically. Drilling for new oil, as with Chevron's untapped deposits offshore California, provides for the global oil market, not our economy specifically. You can make a solid argument that these high quality resources could be better used as petrochemical feedstock in the future to supply our economy as a value-added product than as a fuel export today. Chevron is happy either way. Americans simply need to think ahead and make a rational choice. .
