I don't buy the argument that opening up florida offshore will change gasoline prices anytime soon, and I doubt many here are that naive, but I still think it's a good idea.

I don't have any fundamental gripe with developing offshore deposits.

My response to Webster was along the lines that I think he was suggesting. That it is does not serve our country to continue to believe that our energy future can somehow be salvaged on the back of some sort of domestic crash hydrocarbon exploration and development program.

My reference to the Drill-Now campaign was to suggest that it is nothing more than a power grab by the regular suspects who are capitalizing on the emotional strain of an economically stressed population to cram thru ill advised legislation designed to give them access to even more of the national resource base without regard to conservation constraints.

My take on Websters original comment is that it is in fact an eye opener, if not a blessing, that folks are having to deal with the reality of petroleum scarcity as evidenced by current pump prices.

Perhaps that will be the medicine that will precipitate a serious looks at our countrys abysmal lack of planning for a future that is going to be characterized by a reduction in the availability of cheap fuel.

And sorry BCB, this current situation has a lot to do with a decade of policy that was designed to enrich oil producers at the expense of everyone else.

If that is not apparent, one is legally blind.
