I'm not opposed - eventually we will reach peak oil if we haven't already - alternative forms of energy are still years away (yes we have this and that, but it's not 50% of anything yet) - I'm more interested in being energy independent now (or ten years) - avoiding our need to fund the middle east etc. We need a leader that pushes for all forms of energy with conviction not drill like crazy and exclude solar, wind, nuke etc - we still need those technologies - but not at the cost of ruining the economy.

Of course if scientific opinion swings even further to the idea solar activity is more the issue than CO2 then all bets are off as we have 100's of years worth of oil shale that could be developed. It really gets down to what's economical for the country.
