Thanks for everyone's input. Great thread for beleaguered computer users.

Neeka, you made my evening. I had thought of cleaning it earlier, but the optical hole at the bottom was slightly recessed and seemed too small to get dirt in it. I see I was wrong. I took a Q-tip with alcohol and actually got some dirt out of it. I also cleaned the dust off the bluetooth usb module, but I don't know if that was necessary. No more drifting cursor in the last couple hours or so, the longest time it's been normal. So, thank you!
