There is one big problem that Ms Norton is not taking into consideration or maybe she is and just doesn't want to say that she is. To have good schools you also have to have safe schools and safe neighborhoods. Would I now advise an educated young person just out of college to go into some of the unsafe neighborhoods in D.C. to teach school . Unless you are street smart and tough-------the answer is no. Teachers can't teach if they fear for their lives in getting to and from work or while at work. Neither can children learn if they live in an environment of constant fear. mj
