That's entirely possible and not necessarily a bad thing - the conversion will come when it's economically required. So we catch a break and allow more time for alternatives to be developed why is that bad?

GMC has the volt coming in 2010, Honda announced a hydrogen fuel cell car for "lease" in 2010 - the alternatives are on the way - but 2010 is just the beginning - tax credits will be needed for those vehicles as they'll be far too expensive due to limited production to start - unlike the prius today which has ramped well and no longer needs a credit. A bigger issue for the Honda is fueling stations - now that's someplace government could assist.
