as i remember the 70s, there was a push for alt fuels, cars etc. When the price of gas fell that mostly went away.

Nothing at the time penciled out and battery technology was not what it is today. Things have changed and the prius is a winner.

So is the industry and the rest of the world - it's not a simple problem as so many want it to be. The liquid fuel economy is still the best value proposition out there - the laws of competition still rule - or you risk serious economic harm.
