There are different stripes of creationists. What about the people who say that the Earth is six thousand years old? Or the many people who believe promote the idea of Intelligent Design, who come up with specific things that they say are not possible within the framework of evolution as we know it today?

This is a specific example of one of those things such people have said were not possible. Thus, while Coyne's statement may have been overly broad, I think it's reasonable.
