OK so now you are saying that we may think that they are creating offensive missiles and we might deal with that as a threat? That's possible.

But further more, we should let Europe deal with iran, and Iraq. They have much more to fear form those countries and Iran's missles can easily reach Europe. They cannot reach us.

Iran's missile can not reach us now. In 20 or 30 years things may be different.

Also they don't have to directly reach us to have an impact on us. Yes they may have a BIGGER impact on Europe if they directly hit Europe (or on Israel, or on some other target), but it would still have an impact on us.

Another point is that its possible that our forces in the middle east (or in Europe or in the Med, or in the Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean, etc.) could be a target.

And developing missile defense capabilities isn't just an issue about Iran.

We should be focused on China and Russia!!

While the missile defenses we would build in Eastern Europe would be grossly inadequate to deal with either Russia or China (and not well situated for defending attacks from China or many areas of Russia) they would be a step in the direction of developing a larger more advanced and capable system.
