Doesn't look like a flip flop to me.
A flip flop is when you say, for example, "I'd sooner disown my grandmother than Rev. Wright", then you disown Rev. Wright. That's a flip flop.
Or, when you tell the Jews one thing then change your mind the next day to accommodate pissed off Palestinians.
Or, when in Jan'04 you tell college students you support decriminalization of marijuana use, then during the presidential debate, you oppose deciminalization.
Or, when you oppose cracking down on firms hiring illegals, then in a debate, you say, "We do have to crack down on those employers..."
Or, in January, 04 saying, "it is time to end the embargo with Cuba", followed in Aug '07 (speaking to a Cuban American audience in Miami) saying he would not "take off the embargo".
Or, agreeing in Sept'07 to public financing, then, a few months later, deciding to against it.
Or, in January, describing union contributions to the campaigns of Clinton and John Edwards as "special interest" money, then changing his tune as he began gathering his own union endorsements. (He now refers respectfully to unions as the representatives of "working people" and says he is "thrilled" by their support.)
Or, flipflopping on NAFTA, claiming he previously used "overheated rhetoric".
Or, when he says (in the heat of a debate, with no 'prompter) he would meet without condition with Ahmedenijad, then backs off or it a few months later.
Or when he says he would immediately withdraw troops and on learning just how stupid an idea that is, flip-flops to a gradual withdrawal.
Or, claiming he would present a new, positive campaign then launches smear attacks against McCain.
The list goes on and the campaign is just getting started. Whatever you say about McCain and Bush, they DO NOT flip-flop. |
