Some comments I've read on various metals message boards seem to suggest that there will be yet another central bank announcement of gold sales already completed. There is an underlying sentiment among a number of investors bullish on the stock market that should gold breach $300 an oz it would be a tempting opportunity. Many of the stolid TA types seem to believe a spike down to new lows, temporarily, would be a bullish development, setting the stage for m a bull market to commence within months. All this said, if the stock market can't make new highs it dies and in my opinion that is the main focus right now. Everyone expected new highs this week or next. I don't see it.
