Ovine flatulence featured on CBC radio this morning, not a bad piece, bloke from Wellington interviewed, then the head of the farmers' association from Hamilton ... topic was the new proposals for trading carbon emission credits, how complex it all could be, the apparent contradictions, NZ not so clean and green maybe when you count up all greenhouse gases ... they could likely get BC hard on that, because at night when we're not watching, trees emit carbon dioxide, no respect at all for modern values, what can we do, it's going to cost us
Whole thing is ridiculous imho, what they should do is scrap all value-added taxes, income/capgains taxes for earning less than say 150k/yr, and replace the revenue with taxes on all fossil fuels produced in or imported into the country ... then you're directly penalising the core of what you want to avoid instead of what you'd like to encourage, you'd discourage funds going to terrorist ratholes and Big Oil, it would also be much easier to collect, far fewer points of collection ... but that would reduce hordes of revenooer guvmint jobs, hmm, and oddly enough those people are permitted to vote ... the federal Liberals here have an extremely watered-down version of a similar plan, but they are politically irrelevant for the moment due to performance issues and historical moronosity
The words 'ovine' and 'flatulence' do not appear in search of this thread, seems a bit odd ... oh well, they will now |
