I am visiting India for Summer. Yesterday official inflation numbers are at 11.05%, jump from some 8.75% and analysts were expecting 9.75% or so (this is assuming food dropped 1.1%, and food prices don't look anywhere near dropping). The media is all over this; the reserve bank is way behind the curve with rates; it almost seems the Indian govt is not doing as good a job at hiding inflation numbers as other sovereign govts. The prices are runaway and I have observed this since I have landed here a week back, the real estate is out of the roof and beyond middle class as in many areas in US, only folks with fat salaries with IT jobs re able to afford it somehow; my suspicion is that the rates here are going up and economy will start cooling; nobody expects Sensex to break below 14200 support, they have been fed the bullshit that Indian economy is insulated from US and other world economies, think that means it will likely do so. It almost seems that the break in global reflation is at hand as some govts start showing real inflation numbers, we will likely head into a global slowdown; how bad it gets is hard to say because financial recklessness, although strongly prevalent with soverign govts and its masses, is still asymmetric between different govts and will likely start cracking the nice game that has been going on for years.
