What if GE is also the best-managed bank, with secure debts backed with financially robust assets; which does seem oxymoronic. The price to earnings ratio and dividends suggest a great bargain is sitting there. But looking at the steep decline in the graph, the existing shareholders are obviously thinking that things are not going well and are going to get worse.

Qualcomm shareholders on the other hand, are bidding QCOM up on the basis of large and rapidly growing profits from billions of people wanting mobile cyberspace and a better way to make phone calls.

Having no debt and $billions in the bank obviously makes shareholders feel secure too.
