iPhones have been EDGE until now [= GSM] so they have skewed the market more towards GSM. But that's about to change in a big way. Every man and his dog is after 3G CDMA now in iPhone style devices and they are lined up ready to go and are already going.

One of my points was that 3G CDMA is going to get a huge boost. Each CDMA device that is sold is not a WiMax device [until they become multi-mode]. As happened with GSM versus CDMA, existing technology which is obsolete can hold the line for a long time with economies of scale, market presence, habit and with government backing. Even with the huge spectrum advantage of CDMA, it wasn't enough to swing it against GSM.

OFDM in the form of WiMax will find the same issue.

Another point was that NextWave's share price is back down to where it was [almost] which means the spectrum wasn't valued as highly as was first thought when the news of selling spectrum was announced. Another point is that the shares might therefore be a supersonic bargain at current prices. Another point is they might not.

Another point was that OFDM, which has been on my radar for a decade now as a dire threat to QCOM, has barely scratched the surface in wide area networks, though it's going well in Wi-Fi. That shows how hard it is for a new technology to get a foothold. The advantage of OFDM over CDMA is far less than the advantage of CDMA over GSM, so it seems unlikely to make headway quickly.

When it does, perhaps Qualcomm will be more of a beneficiary than NextWave.

Another point was that it was some data which other people might have some thoughts about.

There you are, several points to choose among. I haven't bought NextWave shares yet, but am keeping a weather eye on the situation. Same as Globalstar [though I have previously owned large tranches in wallop amounts of that].
