If they screw ARU, or the others who have already put up risk capital in finding and developing a deposit, it would be the end of exploration in Ecuador. No one would invest in a Country where the State takes excessive taxes or outright confiscates a find. It would also isolate Ecuador from all its neighbours who have reasonable mining laws, and who respect international conventions etc.

The huge sucking sound you would hear is foreign money fleeing the country.

I'm betting they know that, but we will soon enough find out.
