"NYPA to Let Sprint Install PCS Antennas on Power Towers"
PRNewswire (08/27/96)

New York Power Authority trustees approved a deal with Sprint Spectrum which will permit the company to deploy antennas for Sprint's PCS system on Power Authority transmission towers. As part of the 10-year agreement, Sprint Spectrum can deploy by Nov. 1 an antenna on the Power Authority's transmission line which connects its Niagara project to the Utica area. Other PCS operators can use the antenna as long as these companies do not interfere with Sprint Spectrum's service. C.D.
Rappleyea, the Power Authority's chairman, says his agency is pleased to have a chance to help meet the "communications needs" of the people of the state of New York. Sprint Spectrum is the only company licensed by the FCC to supply PCS coverage to the entire state of New York. Besides being more resistant to interference, PCS 's digital technology can also provide services like data transmission and call forwarding.
