I think this issue shows the social gap between liberals and ordinary people. Ordinary people (including a lot of traditional Democratic voters - blue-collar types, union members - the folks Obama has a problem with and who he's derided to the San Francisco elite as gun and bible hugging jingoists) like the ideal of developing domestic resources - including offshore, in Alaska, oil shale, coal, nuclear. They can understand energy produced here is energy not bought from abroad. Some of them know that helps the trade balance and very important to them, makes jobs in America for Americans. Liberals, for whom opposing drilling is a religious issue right up there with gay marriage and abortion, are really out of touch with such folks:

Why is it you don't hear what's being said? Drilling the ANWR today won't effect gas prices until 2017 or 2030.....I can't remember the right date. Why can you not see the wrongness of drilling? Its just more of the same crap that got us here.

What does it take to get you guys to think outside the box?!
