I didn't know Andrew Viterbi was the Chairman of that group. Hmmmm.... Irwin Jacobs got the glory, but Andrew Viterbi seemed to be running the engine room. Can they do it all again, 20 years later, using the "next wave"? Steve Jobs certainly did and used the "Next" name too, but he eventually went back to Apple, taking it over.

There does seem to be room for improvement. My main question is on ownership of patents. At present prices, WAVE = $470 million, Qualcomm could buy Nextwave with the third significant figure of their cash reserves. Surely that would be better than buying their own shares, which we shareholders already own.

Would the NextWave employees be happy to work for Qualcomm? Perhaps give them all a 15% "please stay" cash bonus and leave the company as a wholly owned subsidiary and keep hands off the management. Maybe pop in another $1 billion so management aren't short of money to make it happen.
