Politics...

I think this is where we are in this election. I think its a lot like 1980, but in this case its the conservatives who are in denial. The most unlikely candidate, obama, will for better or worse be our next president. The cons like the libs before them huddle together and come away satisfied in their own mind that carter/mondale cant lose because all their friends are voting for them. So the lies about obama you hear from the right are similar to the lies we heard back in 80 and 84 about crazy ronnie. Poll numbers are routinely dismissed by this group and they have all sorts of weird interpetations why polls are all wet. Losers often disparage polls.
As an undecided at this point, i havent given up on mccain. I can still see a few ways he could upset obama. I think his best chance is to upset obama in MI and PA and win in Ohio. That will make the electoral map very difficult for obama even if he wins the popular vote. Can you imagine that we might have another minority president?? But McCain taking both MI and PA is a stretch. In order to do it, he might have to run with a Tom Ridge as veep whose face is that of an ethnic son of industrial workers with pro-choice credentials. Sort of a relatively conservative Tim Russert. To counter perhaps Obama needs an Ed Rendell as veep whose background is urban and working class as well.
