The main problem with hydrogen is where do you get it, and how much do you lose making and storing it...?

I'm not so worried about that now.. Solar power is coming down in price to the extent that the average home owner could set up a PV (or CPV) array and produce it themselves.

As for storing it, Quantum Fuel Systems already has that handled:

They also have a 10K/PSI storage tank that is designed for automotive use. It's been structually tested and found to be bullet-proof up to .30 cal armor piercing (with full tank).

Still pricey, but with volume production prices could come down.

The real problem with Fuel Cells is the limited supply of Platinum in the world. Hopefully there will be a miraculous breakthrough where a much more readily available material will be found suitable.
