I am surprised that our folk don't bring up the crash and burn of "Nuclear Winter" more often. It was worth your professional career, if you were a Physicist, to oppose it. But after the Kuwait fires in '91 disproved it, the left ran from it like a thief in the night. And you would think today that the issue never existed.
