NASDAQ OMX Announces Mid-month Open Short Interest Positions in NASDAQ OMX Stocks as of Settlement Date June 13, 2008

NEW YORK, June 24, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- At the end of the settlement date of June 13, 2008, short interest in 2,635 NASDAQ Global Market(sm) securities totaled 10,268,077,980 shares, compared with 9,687,044,281 shares in 2,643 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of May 30, 2008. The mid-June short interest represents 5.05 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 4.94 days for the prior reporting period.

Short interest in 514 securities on The NASDAQ Capital Market(sm) totaled 184,261,415 shares at the end of the settlement date of June 13, 2008, compared with 176,209,519 shares in 515 securities for the previous reporting period. This represents 3.93 days average daily volume, compared with the previous reporting period's figure of 2.65.

In summary, short interest in all 3,149 NASDAQ OMX securities totaled 10,452,339,395 shares at the end of the June 13, 2008 settlement date, compared with 3,158 issues and 9,863,253,800 shares at the end of the previous reporting period. This is 5.03 days average daily volume, compared with an average of 4.87 days for the previous reporting period.

The open short interest positions reported for each NASDAQ OMX security reflect the total number of shares sold short by all broker/dealers regardless of their exchange affiliations. A short sale is generally understood to mean the sale of a security that the seller does not own or any sale that is consummated by the delivery of a security borrowed by or for the account of the seller.
