For 5 million years we competed with the lion for food. We scavaged his kills and broke the bones for the marrow rich in fat and calories.

Accomplishments were the first order of business. To find food. Every day we had to find food. So we became accoustomed to accomplishments.

At night we slept on ledges and the males protected the troop from leapords. If a leopard charged the males would intercede without hesitation even if it meant death.

And then there were social needs. Everyone obeyed social rules, even when they became outdated.

Today we stand naked in an existential world and peer at the universe wondering if it is infinite and what does it really hold.

If we survive another hundred years we will probably be comunicating with other intelligence.

Isn't that what Mark Twain was writing about?

Evolution is our manifest destiny! Not accomplishments.
