True. Presumably the US Navy has massively tested against this threat. Anti-missile systems in general are suppose to be vastly improved in the last few years. Maybe that is sufficient.

But, of course, wars tend to throw up surprises. Sometimes unpleasant.

In addition to the military response, they would lose their own export market (at least for the duration of the intense part of the conflict), they would lose their gasoline imports (they don't have enough refinery capacity to meet their own demand), and they would be ticking off most of the world, including their neighbors.

Yes, the Iranians must see this would cost them dearly. It could even lead to the much-vaunted "regime change". (Maybe them, maybe us, lol).

So the rational calculation is clear. I guess it remains to be seen if rational calculations are dominant or not.
